Melina Macall is a British transplant to the USA. With no labeling of GMOs in the USA the only way Melina could be sure to avoid these products in her family’s diet was to go Organic. Finding this prohibitively expensive Melina founded Boxed Organics using collective buying power to purchase directly from and support local farmers.
Over the years Melina’s expertise in Sustainable food systems has found many outlets. She teaches Food Justice and Community Activism at Rutgers University in the Institute for Food, Nutrition and Health. Melina has created a number of community food justice programs including Guerrilla Gardening. She is engaged in research on agroecology, green medicine and popular education in Cuba.
Melina is a public speaker and consults on many aspects of Food Justice, Sustainability and Cuba. Additionally she organizes cultural, educational and professional development programs to Cuba. Her personal website can be found at The Food Activist.
